Important Information Before You Book

Due to EMDR's specialized nature, a 'First Appointment' is required before beginning full sessions (at a slightly reduced rate). This helps you see if Bruce is a good fit for you, and gives Bruce an opportunity to ask important questions to determine whether EMDR therapy is a good fit for your needs. In this first appointment, he may recommend traditional trauma and PTSD methods for those who are not yet ready for EMDR.

Possible concerns or precautions to beginning EMDR include:

  • Active Mental Health Crisis: Acute suicidal or homicidal ideation, or active psychosis (delusions/hallucinations).
  • Severe Dissociation: Individuals who frequently dissociate or have severe dissociative disorders may require stabilization before beginning trauma processing.
  • Active Addiction: Substance abuse needs to be addressed first to ensure full engagement in the therapy.
  • Unstable Conditions: Recent, ongoing traumatic situations (e.g., being in an active abusive relationship).
  • Medical Issues: Uncontrolled epilepsy, seizure disorders, or recent severe cardiac events.
  • Recent Trauma: If the trauma is very fresh, stability should be established before starting emdr trauma therapy.

A thorough assessment by a qualified therapist is essential to determine if you are ready for EMDR therapy treatment.

In addition, Bruce is a more recently trained EMDR therapist and will assess his suitability for your case severity during the first appointment. For more complex cases, he will refer you to other experienced EMDR therapists who are better suited to your needs.

EMDR Therapy For Individuals

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a specialized form of therapy built specifically for trauma and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). This evidence-based emdr therapy treatment works differently from traditional talk therapy by helping your brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer hold the same emotional charge. This service is offered to individuals only, ages 13 and up.

Bruce Jensen offers online EMDR therapy, making this treatment accessible to clients across Canada from the comfort of their own home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. EMDR therapy is well-supported for anxiety disorders including panic disorder, phobias, and social anxiety. Because many anxiety conditions are rooted in past distressing experiences, EMDR works by targeting those underlying memories rather than just managing symptoms. Many clients notice meaningful reduction in anxiety after completing an EMDR treatment plan.

Yes, a first appointment is required before beginning full EMDR sessions. This initial session runs at a slightly reduced rate and serves two purposes: it helps you decide whether Bruce is a good fit for you, and it allows Bruce to assess whether EMDR therapy treatment is the right approach for your specific needs. In some cases, he may recommend a different trauma therapy method or refer you to another EMDR specialist.

Traditional talk therapy typically involves discussing your experiences in depth and building insight over time. EMDR therapy takes a different approach. Rather than relying on conversation alone, it uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain actively reprocess distressing memories. Many people find that EMDR therapy helps them make progress on trauma that has not responded well to talk therapy alone.

Research supports online EMDR therapy as a highly effective alternative to in-person treatment. The bilateral stimulation used in EMDR therapy online can be delivered through screen-based eye movement guidance, audio tones, or tapping techniques that you self-administer. Most clients adapt quickly to the virtual format and report the same depth of processing they would expect in person.
