Helping Families to Heal

We offer counselling for families, including blended families, siblings, parent-child relationships, and extended family members. Fees for this service vary based on the number of participants attending each session. Please contact us directly for more information regarding pricing.

Family therapy is a specialized form of counselling designed to enhance communication, strengthen relationships, and promote understanding among family members. It can be especially beneficial when family dynamics contribute to individual concerns, or when the challenges faced by one member are impacting the well-being of the entire family unit.

The definition of "family" is broad and inclusive, and it may include siblings, parents and children, couples, close friends, and caregivers.

Common Reasons to Start Family Therapy

Families reach out for many different reasons, here are a few we see often

  • Communication has broken down: When conversations turn into conflict, or family members stop talking altogether
  • Divorce or separation: Navigating the emotional impact of a family restructuring, for parents and children alike
  • Parenting challenges: Working through disagreements on parenting approaches or difficulties with a child's behaviour
  • Mental health or substance use: Supporting the whole family when one member's struggles are affecting everyone at home

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

A quick look at how we get started together

Every family's first session looks a little different, but here's generally what you can expect:

  • A warm, low-pressure introduction: your therapist will explain how sessions work and answer any questions before diving in
  • A conversation about what brought you in: the history, dynamics, and current concerns affecting your family
  • Time to share individual perspectives: each family member gets space to share how they see things, at their own pace
  • A discussion of goals: what you'd each like to get out of therapy, and who should attend future sessions
  • A plan moving forward: a sense of what the next few sessions will focus on, so you leave with a clear next step

There's no pressure to have everything figured out on day one. Our goal is simply to help your family feel heard and supported as you get started.

Family Therapy FAQ's

Answers to questions we hear often

This depends on your family's needs. Sessions can include the whole family, a parent-child pair, siblings, or any combination of members. We'll help you decide who should be part of each session as we go.
Fees vary based on the number of participants attending each session. Please contact us directly and we'll walk you through pricing for your family's situation.
Yes. We offer family therapy both in-person in Winnipeg, MB and virtually across Canada, so distance or scheduling doesn't have to be a barrier.
That's okay. Therapy can still be helpful even if not everyone is ready to participate right away. We can start with the members who are willing and adjust as trust and buy-in grow.
Not at all. Many families come in for day-to-day communication struggles, parenting disagreements, or the stress of a life transition. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit.
